TERMINUS

The AFDC will once again be sponsoring Terminus on March 22-23 at the Polo Fields in Cumming, GA. Terminus draws a number of quality men’s women’s, and college teams from around the country. Come and check out the action!

Volunteers are needed to help with all aspects of Terminus. We need people to assist with parking, scorekeeping, concessions, and more. If you can give two hours of your time either on Saturday or Sunday, please contact Jennifer at 770-594-9562. E-mail: jennifer@extraplex.com

Directions to the Fields: GA 400 north of Atlanta to exit 12, McFarland Rd. Turn left and go west on McFarland to Hwy 9 (Amoco at corner). Turn right, and go 1.5 miles to Post Rd. Turn left on Post Rd., and then right on Majors Rd.

Schedule of Events

  • Friday night gathering at the Mill. 7 PM. The Mill is a brew pub and restaurant in Midtown, at the corner of 10th and Monroe.
  • Saturday Morning Pool play begins at 9 sharp at the Polo fields.
  • Saturday Night Party. VFW Post 7583, 140 Dobbs Drive, Roswell. All AFDC members are invited! Featuring a DeeJay and lots and lots of ultimate's favorite beverage. Directions: From GA 400, take Holcomb Bridge Rd. west to Warsaw Rd. (Look for Olive Garden restaurant.) Turn left on Warsaw. Turn left on Grimes Bridge Rd. and then right on Oxbo, then right onto Dobbs Dr. (A map to the party will be in the tournament program.)
  • Sunday Morning Rounds begin at 9 AM. Semis and Finals times are not yet decided. Please check the AFDC web site the week before the tournament.

Summer League 1997 

It’s hard to believe, but Summer League is right around the corner. The first organizational meeting for those people interested in being team captains will be held Monday, April 14th. At this meeting, changes to the Summer League by-laws will be discussed, and captains (or other interested parties) will be encouraged to voice any suggestions for the league.

The AFDC Core Ranking meeting (for captains) will be Wednesday May 14th, at which time all cores MUST be completely filled out. The team rankings, which determine the order for the draft will be completed at this meeting. At this time, the team registration fee of $50 will be due. This is a required, fully refundable deposit, identical to the team fees charged in the last few years.

Times and places for meetings have not yet been set. Call the AFDC hotline at 404-351-0914 or visit the AFDC web site at http://www.afdc.com for more updated information in the near future.

Summer League Play will start Tuesday June 3rd. New features will be added to the web site for Summer League, including listings of captains and a new forum for those of you looking to fill out or join a core.

 Register Now!

To avoid the new late penalties, dues must be postmarked on or before May 19th.

Use the attached form to register for summer league. Registration forms postmarked after May 19th will NOT be allowed on a team core, or placed in the initial draft. Players will have to wait until the first supplemental draft, two weeks after the start of summer league, to get on a team.

You will notice that late dues will be heavily penalized this year. Players will have to pay twice the regular amount if they wish to join summer league after May 19th. The Steering Committee deemed this a necessary measure to avoid the tremendous problem in years past of people signing up on the night of the draft (or later). An exception to this rule will be made for any new AFDC members, defined as people who have NEVER played summer league before. New members may join at the regular rates anytime during the year.

  • The AFDC’s Wednesday night pick-up play currently being held at the AJCC will be moved to Piedmont Park on April 9th due to the time-change. All members are invited to come out and play.
  • A Blacklist of members who never paid dues last year exists. If your name is on it, you will not be allowed to register for Summer League this year until the back dues is paid in full. If you are (or suspect you may be) one of these people, please contact our Membership Director, Nils Turner at (404) 622-3571 or e-mail nils@chara.gsu.edu to make arrangements.
