The Quarterly Pull March 1998 TERMINUS Terminus, the AFDC’s most competitive tournament of the year, will be held the weekend of March 21-22 this year at the Polo Fields in Cumming, GA. Terminus attracts top-level teams from around the country in four different divisions. This year, 48 teams will be selected to compete- 16 Open (men’s), 16 College Men’s, 8 Women’s and 8 College Women’s. More information on Terminus can be found at the AFDC web site, www.afdc.com Directions: Take GA 400 north of Atlanta to exit 12 - McFarland Rd. Turn left and go west on McFarland to Hwy 9 (Amoco at corner). Turn right, and go 1.5 miles to Post Rd. Turn left on Post Rd., and then right on Majors Rd. Parking lot is immediately on your left. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! The AFDC needs help from its members to ensure the success of Terminus. Volunteers are needed Friday afternoon and evening lining the fields, putting up the concession tent, and other pre-tournament set-up work. Dinner and other refreshments will be provided. Volunteers are also needed all day Saturday and Sunday to run the concession stand (sell tournament discs and shirts), keep score at games, pass out water, fruit, and programs to players, pick up trash, and other duties. PARTY The Terminus party will be held at VFW Post 7583, 140 Dobbs Drive, Roswell. A deejay will play from 9:30 PM until 1:30 AM. Directions: From GA 400, take Holcomb Bridge Rd. west to Warsaw Rd. (Look for Olive Garden restaurant.) Turn left on Warsaw. Left on Grimes Bridge Rd. Right on Oxbo Rd. (at bottom of hill) Right onto Dobbs Dr.. All AFDC Members are invited to attend the party. NEW: Spring League! Given the success of the Saturday afternoon Fall League, the AFDC has decided to run a Spring League as well. Spring League will have a very similar format, with each team playing one game to 15 every Saturday afternoon. As in the fall, members can sign up either individually or as an entire team. The deadline for registration is March 20th, and games begin Saturday, April 4th. The final tournament will be divided over two Saturdays - May 9th and May 16th. A registration form is printed on the back of this newsletter. Please fill it out and mail it in to the AFDC, P.O. Box 5946, Atlanta, GA 31107-0946. Make checks payable to the AFDC. Registrations received after March 20th will not be accepted. Registration forms can also be found on the AFDC web site, www.afdc.com. Ranking system: players are self-rated on a scale of 0 to 9. 9 An ultimate god. Nationals experience. Can put the forehand, backhand, and hammer anywhere with high accuracy. Excellent field sense and plays good defense. 8 A lesser god; lacks one or two criteria above. 7 Meets a few of the criteria of a 9, but needs either a few more years of experience or a few less years of age. Does or has played on a competitive traveling (club) team. 6 Sound athleticism and good disc skills. Good field sense, makes the occasional mistake, gets burned occasionally. 5 Similar to 6, but makes a few more errors, both on offense and defense. 4 Starting to feel comfortable with the forehand. Knows how to stack, and does so often. Has played in an organized rec league before. 3 Similar to 4; can throw the forehand well on the sideline, but still throws it away in a game. 2 Knows the basic rules, but is just getting started with the forehand and concepts like stacking. 1 Has played once or twice before, but is still very confused out on the field. 0 Absolute beginner.

Dues: $20.00 per person, $10 students Misc... Co-ed Pick-up play continues at the Atlanta Jewish Community Center every Wednesday night beginning around 7 PM. Women’s pick-up play is every Saturday at noon at Grant Park. Co-ed pick-up at the Chattahoochie River Park on US 41 continues Sunday afternoons at 2:30 PM. Several local men and women are heading to Rimini, Italy in April to play beach ultimate against the top European teams. Spaces are still available on the roster.
