Youth Happenings

Here’s a word from AFDC’s Juniors Director, George Li, on Youth Spring League, AFDC YCC tryouts, and USAU’s Junior National Team tryouts.

Youth Spring League

AFDC held the End of Season tourney for the Under-16 year old Youth Spring league on March 23. Congrats to Team Orange for winning the round robin with a perfect 5-0 record. The six-week long season saw the most middle school players & high school freshman participating (20 different schools were represented!) since the league’s inception three years ago. Thanks to the volunteers who managed competition each week and to our clinic/coaching leaders: GaTech Women’s team, Lakeside HS, Chain Lightning, & YCC Coaches/Ozone.

AFDC Youth Club Championship Tryouts

The AFDC has completed the three tryout days for its 2014 YCC teams. Almost 100 Jr’s league players competed for spots on the Under-16 Open, Under-19 Open and Under-19 Girls teams & a shot to represent AFDC in the national tournament in August 2014. Rosters for each team are being finalized now & will be posted to (https://www.afdc.com/youth-club-championships-ycc/) once they are completed.

USA Ultimate Junior National Team Tryout

On Mar 15-16, AFDC Juniors hosted the east coast national team tryout in Conyers, GA. This competitive camp was one of two (Seattle being the other location) used to determine who will represent the USA at the World Flying Disc Federation World Junior Ultimate Championships. 90 of the top youth players from around the country participated in Atlanta’s grueling two-day event. Look for AFDC to bring more national events to Atlanta.
