Coed Summer League Core Info

Things that are the same:

– 16 people on cores. If you’re struggling to get to 16, let me know and I’ll put you in touch with free agents. 10 men and 6 women – no option this year.

– Cored players will be activated into the league independent of registration timestamp. Men – get on cores! Otherwise you risk being left out.

– Every person on your core has to know they are on your core. Talk to them. Send them an email, phone call, telegram, whatever you want to do. You cannot randomly core some person, because that person might have agreed to be on a different core.

THIS IS DIFFERENT. PAY ATTENTION.

– Here’s where we’re changing things: Use the 0-9 scale we always use. Then stop. Men and women are going to be valued the same for the purposes of core building, since we’re now playing 4/3. Since that’s the case, we no longer need to do any subtracting to make the cores. Just add up the ranks of all of your players.

– The max limit for your top 7 players is 45. This is, as close as possible, a facsimile of last year’s top 7 number extrapolated into the new system. Math!

– The limit for all of your men is 59.

– The total limit for all of your 16 players is 85.

– Captains should, if in doubt, use the GRank value for your players. In cases where GRank is comically wrong, go ahead and submit your best estimate and a reason for the departure. There is no CRM this year, instead a rankings committee will make rank adjustments as they see fit. Attempting to BS the committee will not work out favorably for you.

– Call for captains coming tomorrow

– If you have any questions, please contact me. This goes much better when we start a dialogue early in the process rather than right up against the deadline. Help me help you!

Coed Summer League 2015 Details

Woo, SL2015!

Last year was a great success amid lots of change. 2015 is lined up to be even better, even as I ruin your summer again.

What’s staying the same:

We’re still going to play 4/3

1 Female and 1 Male captain per team (captains of both genders required for cores to be submitted)

14 men and 8+ women per team

24 teams in co-ed summer league

MEN NEED TO GET ON CORES! Getting on a core ensures you a spot in the league. Can’t fit on your normal team? Make a new core! I’ll help you fill it out! Don’t be the guy who’s emailing to complain about being left out of the league in the middle of May, I won’t be able to do anything at that point.

What’s being tweaked:

Tuesday nights will continue to be 2 games starting at 6:30.

Thursday nights are being revamped. Yes, again. There was a general sentiment that folks wanted to play 2 games on Thursdays. Game of the Week was not especially well attended. So, for 7 weeks of the season, you’ll have 2 Thursday night games, starting at 6:30 (just like Tuesdays).

3 weeks, we’ll all have a single game, starting at 7pm, capped off with a Summer League Showcase Game (formerly Game of the Week) under the lights. Week 1 will be Rivalry Night. Everyone will play their natural rival, then get to watch the best rivalry in the league play under the lights. Week 6 will be an All-Star game under the lights. Week 10 will see the matchup of the 1v2 regular season teams under the lights.

Showcase games will feature food and beverages.

SPIRIT! We’re implementing a more focused and directed approach to spirit in Summer League. Details to come, but this will include spirit circles, spirit score reporting and spirit prizes!

To this end, we are eliminating the core ranking meeting (CRM). A ranking committee will ensure that no players are terribly misranked. Replacing CRM will be a captain’s party. It will serve for all captains to get to know one another, understand the expectations we have for them, and learn about the new approach to spirit.

What’s never changing:

You will have fun
You will play a ton of ultimate
Someone is actively working to ruin your summer

Important dates reminder: 1st games 5/26, MST 6/27-28, EoST 8/1-2

Final core rules to come later this week, as well as a call for captains and registration details.
