HS State Championships

The 2017 State Championships have now come and gone. For the first time in league history, both the Open and Girls divisions used the match play format for the tournament. The championship series was spread out over two weeks with the Finals culminating on April 29th and April 30th.

The Girl’s Varsity Finals was livestreamed and is now available on Youtube (link here). Congratulations to Paideia Varsity for winning the state title. While Brookwood put up a valiant fight and had some outstanding moments, Paideia showed their consistent disc skills and were able to come away with a strong win, 13-4.

Paideia Varsity Girls

In Open Varsity, Lambert gave Paideia all they could handle in a semifinal matchup but ultimately came up a little short. Lakeside struggled against a very strong Grady team on their side of the bracket. The finals between Grady/Paideia was a hard fought, clean game with plenty of highlights to go around. Grady, backed by a large crowd of friends/family, was eventually able to come out on top 13-10.

Grady Boy’s Varsity

On the JV side, Northview played well against Central Forsyth and moved on to the finals with relative ease. Grady and Lakeside were interlocked in a back-and-forth matchup which eventually saw Lakeside winning on a couple of desperation throws to the endzone on universe point. The finals between Northview and Lakeside also came down to universe point with both teams having multiple opportunities to clinch the game. In the end Northview was able to string together one final clean offensive possession to seal the game, 13-12. Both teams showed incredible grit and battled for well over an hour and half.

The spirit remained high throughout the tournament and it was a testament to our sport to see such spirited play in the midst of fierce competition.
