Boasting a membership of over 2,500, AFDC is comprised of a diverse set of individuals both on and off the field.  Although leagues occur year-round, Summer League attracts the most players with over 700 regularly signing up to form 32 teams.  What makes Atlanta’s Summer League unique among large-scale leagues across the country, is its ability to combine players across all levels of play, from the complete beginner to the elite club athlete, in one competitive league.  Summer League in Atlanta attempts to include all players, young and old and casual and serious alike.  Thus, in an effort to highlight the breadth of our membership and their experiences, I’ve asked seven AFDC members of varied backgrounds seven Ultimate questions. Goalty Update for Jan 21

We’ve completed two weeks of games in the Winter Goaltimate season and here in week three we’re experiencing our first rain out. Today’s games (January 21st) will be made up in in week five (February 4th), which should appear for you on the schedule in the next few days.

College Terminus

The AFDC is once again proud to announce that we are hosting College Terminus in Atlanta.  The tournament will be held at  Georgia Soccer Park on March 24-25.

VOLUNTEERS:  USA Ultimate will be hosting an observers clinic during College Terminus.  This is your chance to get certified as an observer.  More info can be found here.  If you would like to volunteer in a different capacity, please email Sam Cooke.

CAPTAINS/TEAMS:   Information on the bid process can be found here.  We are hosting 20 mens teams and 10 womens teams.  Bid deadline is February 1st, 2012.

Winter Goalty Registration Now Open

Registration for Winter Goaltimate is now open. Games will be played on Saturdays (fields TBA) between January 7th and February 23rd. The end of season tournament will take place on March 3rd.

12 Days Food Drive

acfb The canned goods from the 12 Days Canned Food Drive were delivered to the Atlanta Community Food Bank this morning. After all was said and done, AFDC donated 944 pounds of canned goods, which is a pretty strong showing.

Special thanks to everyone who contributed, including Kathryn Dronzek for winning the individual drive with 77 canned goods, and Katherine Wooten who finished a close second.

Next year, our goal will be to break 1,000 pounds.  Happy holidays and hope to see everyone at winter goalty.

YOU SHOULD. Registration will go up next week (price TBA) and will run through January 2nd.

As is custom, we’re not going to allow late registration. Sign up on time. If you know someone who doesn’t read the forums, tell them about registration. Sob stories about missing registration will be listened to while pretending to play the world’s tiniest violin and making a fake pouty face at you.

New Scoreboards

The AFDC is a classy organization and our tournaments are classy too. That’s why we have invested in “state-of-the-art” “scoring systems.” Look for these bad boys coming to a sideline near you. They will premier at 12 Days this year but expect them at Terminus and other tournaments too. Help out the community by taking good care of them. Thanks!
