The AFDC has elected a new president – John Boezi.
Jenny Lee will be stepping down as AFDC president as of June 1st. The steering committee has elected John Boezi as the next president. His term will last for three years.
I want to thank Jenny Lee for her service. She has been indispensable to the AFDC for many years. She will be difficult to replace.
Voting process/Bylaws: You may have noticed a little confusion with the presidential selection process. The steering committee has just approved new bylaws and we are still in the process of getting procedures sorted out. There may be some further changes as we clarify how we want things to work.
In general, elections will work like this:
- We will post an opening to the membership on the website/Facebook.
- Interested parties will submit their names and credentials.
- The steering committee will consider all candidates and vote to elect someone.
- The membership will be allowed to oppose the candidate. To do so 2/3rds of the membership must oppose in writing.
Membership is defined by all people who have paid dues for an AFDC event in the fiscal year or immediately preceding year.
Moving forward: The steering committee and I have a lot of initiatives we want to implement. However, first we must finalize our bylaws and continue with our restructuring. There are a lot of open positions at the moment that need to be filled. There are some old positions that will be eliminated. There will be some new positions added to better handle how we actually operate. Bear with us as we grow. Look at it as a great time to get involved.
As things settle I will begin to chart our course for the rest of the year and for the next three years. We’ll keep you updated.
Getting information: We are moving away from the forums as the main source of important information. The forums will remain a dynamic place for discussion but now you can find official content on www.afdc.com, in your Facebook newsfeed by liking our fan page, and by adding the AFDC calendar to yours.
Summer league: Summer league is our busiest time. We have a lot going on. Registration is up and you may have noticed that Pete Holiday has been busy overhauling the system. This is the first big step towards upgrading the league management side of our website. You may have noticed/read about the upgrades to our content. We’ll be rolling out more and more features as the months pass.
I want to say that I’m really excited about becoming president. I hope I can do the job well. The AFDC has been great to me and I want to return the favor.
