LEAGUE ANNOUNCEMENT – Women and Girls’ Ultimate League

This league, exclusively for gender expansive and women/girl-identifying players, is back with a new format! On Sunday nights, come out to develop your play and build connections and community – every league night will start with skills and drills and end with small-field games.

We will have two hat-style tournaments at mid-season and end-of-season, which are included in your league registration and also open for one-time registration. Let your friends know if they can’t commit to the season, they can register for just a tournament!

If you have any questions or are interested in helping plan/facilitate the skills and drills, email Lily at lilyponitz@gmail.com.

LEAGUE ANNOUNCEMENT – SPRING ULTIMATE

Spring Ultimate League: March 12 – April 30 | EOST (hat) May 7

Details and Registration Information

It has been 2 years since I had to tell everyone to hang up their cleats for the season due to Covid and it killed me to do it. Now, it is starting to look safer out there, so it is time to come out of hibernation and play some Ultimate again!

Mixed 5/2 or 4/3, and other items will be decided based on the number of people who sign up, so SIGN UP EARLY!  If you are interested in captaining a team, let me know. There are still captain spots available.  A new twist we are trying this year is a Hat Tournament instead of EoST to have more mixing and mingling of people in the AFDC. Come make a new friend!

We will be having Spring League Ultimate this year. YAY!

Regular Season: Saturdays, March 12 – April 30 (10:00-1:00).  Field locations are Benteen Park, Boulevard Crossing (lower), and Grant Park.

EOST Hat Tournament: May 7th at Grant Park.

Registration fee: $60

COVID POLICY: FULLY VACCINATED

You must be fully vaccinated with boosters in order to play or attend.  Boosters must be taken before 2/25/2022.  Upload your COVID Vaccination Card here: leagues.afdc.com/covid

Anyone who does not submit a vaccination card will be removed from the league before teams are picked – they will not be drafted.

Registration Opens THIS MONDAY 2/7/22

I have missed you all so much and I cannot wait for a chance for us all to come together, enjoy time with our friends, and play some Ultimate.

Be safe, check and make sure you gear still works (might need some new turfs/cleats), go out for a pre-season jog, and get ready to get back to the best sport ever!

COVID UPDATE – RETURN TO PLAY!

AFDC is returning to play!

Your AFDC COVID-Committee has been hard at work discussing different approaches and options in an effort to update our COVID policy.  Safety of our players and the general public is our primary concern.  Based on state/local recommendations and what other local, regional, and national disc-sport organizations have done, we are updating our approach….

… long story short, WE ARE RETURNING TO PLAY!!

Here’s the details of our updated COVID policy:

1.  All participants in leagues and events must be fully vaccinated or wear masks.  Fully vaccinated means having received all vaccines and boosters currently recommended – as of today, the two-part vaccine plus the booster.  Vaccine cards can be uploaded and reviewed through the registrations site.  Anyone not fully vaccinated must wear a mask while playing and on the sidelines.  Each event may have additional or more restrictive safety measures as determined by their organizers.

2.  Regular COVID committee meetings will be held quarterly to re-assess the state of COVID, public health recommendations, and our policy.  Special COVID meetings may be called by any member of the COVID committee for sudden changes in the state of COVID, to be held within one-week of calling the meeting.

Similar to USAU, we are checking vaccine status in event registration.  You can upload a picture of your vaccine card on the registrations website HERE (https://leagues.afdc.com/covid) through the linked google form.

We will be checking these.  We will remind you if you aren’t in compliance with league rules before the league starts, and you will not be able to play unless we confirm that you’re playing by the rules.  If it helps, consider these rules similar to “dangerous play” or SOTG violations.

Please note that AFDC Juniors is adopting its own policy, similar to this but based on USAU and APS guidelines.  Talk to your coaches about the details.

The policy may be updated.  The current policy and FAQs can be found on the Policies page under the About tab above, or by clicking here: https://www.afdc.com/policies/

Winter Goalty – Program Cancellation

AFDC is canceling winter goalty due to COVID. We have adopted a policy for the City of Atlanta to be out of the ‘Red’ metrics for 10 days before play can continue. With current predictions it is unlikely we’d play in January at all. If the best case scenario occurs then the league may have half the scheduled weekends to play.

We came up with many different contingency plans on things we could have done, but it would have required a lot of labor for the mere prospect of playing. Managing the day by day, communicating, dealing with potential partial refunds, etc. It became clear that the best plan is to cancel the program and issue complete refunds.

Registration is closed and refunds will be issued soon.  We apologize for the inconvenience – we’re disappointed too.  We will be trying for Spring weeknight goalty. We’re planning a draft league with paired captains.

Stay safe everybody.

ALL EVENTS ON HOLD – COVID UPDATE

Due to the recent and sudden spread of COVID-19, all AFDC events are postponed until further notice.  The City of Atlanta’s current dashboard can be found HERE.  AFDC’s COVID response policy is as follows:

The Atlanta Flying Disc Club will continue to base policy decisions on the guidance from the City of Atlanta, which uses a Red-Yellow-Green system found HERE.  When Red, all play is suspended.  When Yellow, play is allowed within current City of Atlanta and CDC guidelines and recommendations.  Accordingly, when Yellow, all players will need to provide proof of vaccination to play without a mask.  All other players will be required to wear a mask while playing and on the sideline.  Players who violate mask rules will be removed from play.  When Green, play is allowed without modification.  During Yellow and Green phases, it is at the organizer’s discretion to implement additional safety measures beyond what is outlined above.

Individual program updates will be coming out soon and/or sent to those affected individually.

Stay safe everybody.
